Do kids need their own cell phones?

Most cell phone companies design models especially for kids. But parents are usually the ones buying the phones, and paying the bill. According to a July 2012 study, 56% of parents of children ages 8 to 12 have given their children a cell phone.  The percentage goes up with age. The study, by ORC International for the National Consumers League (NCL), basically proves what many people already assumed: many kids, if not most, have their own cell phones.

According to a recent YouthBeat survey, 12 is the magic number. It is the most common age for kids to get their first cellphone. But 13% of children ages 6 to 10 already have one. That¡¯s more than one out of every 10 kids.

Pro-cell phone people, including many parents, note that cell phones help kids keep in touch with their friends and families. They believe that cell phones are an important tool in an emergency. Kids can stay connected with their parents at all times, whether it¡¯s to ask for a ride home from soccer practice or to receive a good-luck text message moments before a big game. Plus, some people say having a cellphone helps teach kids to be responsible. Some cell phones designed for kids can be controlled with settings that allow the phone to only be used in parent-approved ways. What¡¯s the harm in that?

But other people are worried about the health and safety effects of kids' cell phones. They believe that plugged-in kids could be missing out on other activities, such as playing outside or hanging out with friends, and that sending text messages or fielding phone calls while doing homework is bad for concentration. They say that kids are spending too much time texting instead of talking to each other. "Our brains evolved to communicate face to face," says Gary Small, a professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, in California. "A lot of this is lost with texting.¡±

Another concern is cyberbullying, which is on the rise as more kids use e-mail and text messages to communicate. And some experts are concerned about possible health risks. They worry that radiation—or energy waves—released by cellphones could be harmful to young people. To be safe, many pediatricians advise limiting talk time.

What do you think: Do kids need their own cell phones?

My opinion: I don¡¯t know.

Reason:

It¡¯ll be fine to have a cell phone when their houses are far away or it is not a smart phone. I think if the phone is a smart phone or not doesn¡¯t matter. A cell phone is for calling and giving text messages so I think it doesn¡¯t matter until you can¡¯t call with it.

But some people say that it is bad for kids because of radiation. And radiation causes terrible diseases. On the news, this often shows up.

Even if it is harmful, It¡¯s not bad for kids to have cell phones just in case for a emergency. You¡¯ll find it hard to call for help if you don¡¯t have cell phones. If the parents are worried about games, parents will have to make children not do games .

Therefore, I Think I don¡¯t know whether it is good or bad.

<Do Kids Need Their Own Cell Phone?>

Some people think that kids don't need their own cell phones because they just play games with it. However, unlike these people, I think kids need their own cell phone.

The first reason why I think kids need their own cell phone is because his/her family needs to know their kid's information if they are far away from the kid:where they are, what happened to them... All families love their children, so if their kids have no cell phone so they can't get informatiobn of their kids, they will probably get nervous and stuffy.

Another reason why I think kids should have their own cell phone is because to release their stess. These days, smart phones are commonly used. They have lots of games. Normal phones also have games, but not fun then smart phones. Also, children have lots of homework to do these days. So, they will have lots of stress. So, I think they can sometimes do games and release stress. But, if they do too much games, I will change their phones to normal phones.

This was why I think kids should have their own cell phones.

my opinion:no.

because if KIDS have cell phones, they promise to not game.

but they do games when their moms do not see them.

and smart phones can be worse.

these new things are not invented for game.

and your eyes get bad if you spend a lot a time because of game.

kids only need phones to talk and text

and even some grown ups are doing games.

and now my eyes are really bad.

I don't have many ideas now.

bye!

You are the opposite opinion as me. You said games are really bad, but I think it's okay to play a little bit to release stress.
