어휘력의 문제일까요? 이해력의 문제일까요? 

1.질투와 경의를 표하네요.

제가 어릴적에 한동안 리버보이처럼 수영하는 꿈을 반복해서 꾼적이 있었는데

바로 딱 이런 느낌이였어요 ㅋㅋㅋ

2.제스의 아버지는 할아버지의 사랑을 원하네요.

성격이 아무리 다르다고는 하지만 제스의 아버지가 불쌍해요..

마지막 까지 제스의 아버지와 할아버지의 관계는 저에게 많은 생각을 하게 하더라구요.

3.To be wheeled away into some hospital ward, frustrated, resentful, and thus to die, his work uncompleted, was an end she could never have envisaged for him.

4. It was not conventionally good-looking, but it was striking, especially in the way the eyes moved. There was an electric intensity about them that she felt should have been frightening; but there was a tenderness there, too, and he seemed greatly concerned about her.

5. 할아버지의 그림을 제스에게 완성하라고 하네요.

리버보이가 원하는것은 새벽에 강이 시작되는곳에서 만나서 바다로 함께 헤엄쳐 가자고 하네요.

6.할아버지가 그림을 망쳤다고  보고 더 걱정을 하네요.

1.리버보이의 수영실력을 보고 질투를 하지 않을수가 없엇죠...

분명 트레이닝을 받은것 같진 않은데 authority,wilderness,power.grace가 넘쳐나

존경할 수밖에 없었던 듯...

2.제스 아버진 아버지의 사랑을 갈망했지만 그사랑은 제스에게로만 간 것 같아요..

하지만 그에 대해서도 불평 한마디 없으셨죠...

그걸 보는 제스도 마음 아팠구요..

도살장에 끌려가는 소처럼 병원에 가기 싫어하신 할아버지 마음도 이해가 되요...

그걸 바라보는 제스의 마음도요..제 아버지가 그러셨거든요...

지금은 요양원에 계십니다만......씁쓸하네요...

이제 리버보이도 마지막 미션만을 남겨두고 있네요...

처음에 몰입하기 힘들었었는데 벌써 마지막이라 생각하니..

아쉽기도 하고 뿌듯하기도 하네요..

1. 제시는 리버보이가 마치 강의 일부분처럼 자연스럽게 수영을 하는 걸 보고 넋을 잃었지요.

2. 이야기 초반에 제시의 할아버지와 아버지의 성격에 대해 말한 부분이 있었어요..

    두 분이 아버지와 아들이라고 하기에는 너무 극과 극의 성격을 가지고 있다고..

    그래서 그런지 사이가 그다지 좋지는 않았지요..

    제시의 아버지는 할아버지의 사랑이 필요했지만, 할아버지의 사랑은 온통 제시에게 집중되었던 것 같아요.

    혹시 할아버지는 그동안 자신의 아들을 사랑해주지 못했기에

    손녀인 제시를 더욱 사랑하는 게 아닌가 싶어요..

    그동안 쉽게 다가서지 못한 아들에게 이제와 다가서려니 할아버지의 성격상 어려웠을 것 같기도 하고

    그래서 아들 몫까지 더욱 제시를 사랑해준 건 아닐지..

친정 식구들과 여행 다녀왔는데 가서 좀 읽을 수 있었고 오늘 신년 벽두부터 어수선한 일이 있어서 책만 잡고 있었어요. 피난처~ ^^; 낭군이 다녀오라고 해서 다녀온 건데-  아버님 왈, 회사 가는 남편 그리 놔두고 여행을 다녀왔냐고 혼났어요. 심지어 친정 부모님 아주 드물게 와서 손주들과 시간 보내다 주무시고 가는데 그것 아시곤 당신 아들 쉴 수 있게 해줘야 하지 않겠냐고 하더군요.헐~~ 본인들도 딸 가졌는데 시가 식구들은 이리 맘이 야박하죠~.

미션을 보니 내용 파악이 됨과 동시에 조금 김 빠지는 감이 들기도 합니다. 조금씩 River boy에 가까이 다가가더니 드디어 얘기를 나누는군요. 실체가 뭔지 궁금하군요. 어릴 적 할아버지를 대변하는 분신같은 존재인가요?
