III. Free Response Question:
Think about Shylock in the story. Actually, Antonio abused Shylock for a long time because Shylock charged big interest when lending money to poor people. And Shylock was picked on just because he was a Jew back then. When Antonio couldn¡¯t keep his promise, according to the bond made between them, Shylock asked for Antonio¡¯s life.
Which idea do you support? Choose one idea and write why.
1. I think Shylock is a greedy beast cherishing money more than other people¡¯s life.
2. I can understand Shylock¡¯s rage inside. He asked for Antonio¡¯s flesh according to the law.
3. Antonio did wrong to Shylock but I do not agree with Shylock¡¯s way of revenge.
I support number 3; Antonio did wrong to Shylock but I do not agree with Shylock¡¯s way of revenge. Because, Antonio was wrong. But, someone is Jew and that is not very big sin. (That would be my think.) Shylock was picked on. Pick on is very sad thing. And all the reason picked on is because he is Jew! It¡¯s so bad. Antonio have sin, Antonio¡¯s sin is bigger then Shylock¡¯s sin.
As I said Antonio was doing so wrong thing. But, Shylock¡¯s revenge was so big danger to all. If it was not Portia, Bassanio was in big trouble. Of course, Antonio can have big trouble, too.
So, Antonio and Shylock both did wrong thing. But, Shylock¡¯s revenge was so bad. (I cannot agree to him, NEVER EVER!!!)
