제 컴퓨터 수리를 맡겨야 하는데 세월아 내월아 한달치 방치되고 있어요.

그러다 보니 미션 자꾸 늦춰지구요..(이건 변명이겠지요?)

새해 목표가 미션 제때 맞춰하기 였는데.. 무너진지 벌써 오래되었네요.

1. 나름 열심히 학교생활을 하고 있는데, Brochlehurst씨가 Reed 부인의 말을 곧이 듣고,
학교에 자신을 나쁜 아이라고 폭로 할까 걱정하고 있었겠지요.

그냥 잘 넘어갈 수도 있었는데.. 너무 긴장했던 Jane은 석판을 떨어뜨려 망가뜨리면서
Brochlehurst씨의 주목을 제대로 받게되는 사건이 발생합니다.
Brochlehurst씨는 Jane을 보자 고아인 자신을 돌봐준 자상한 숙모에게 거짓말을 일삼는
못된 아이라고 하면서 선생들이 주의해서 이 아이를 감독하라고 크게 떠들어대지요.
또 스툴에 서 있는 벌을 내리면서 하루종일 어느 누구도 Jane에게 말을 걸지 말라고 지시합니다.

2. Jane은 빵을 나누어 주려고 온 Helen에게, 모든 사람이 거짓말 장이라고 믿는 자신한테 왜 왔느냐고 묻자,
세상 모두가 아닌 단지 80여명만이 이 상황을 봤을 뿐이며, 이들중 많은 사람들이 Jane을 불쌍하게 생각했을 것이라 위로합니다.
또 Brochlehurst씨는 신이 아니며, 이 사람을 좋아하는 사람 또한 많지 않다고 이야기 해주지요.

Jane과 Helen을 발견한 Miss Temple은 자신의 방으로 불러들여
죄인도 자신을 변호할 기회를 갖는다면서 Jane에게 자초지종을 듣습니다.
전후사정을 알게된 Miss Temple은 Mr Lloyd에게 편지를 보내 Jane의 말이 사실로 판명되면
Jane에게 잘못이 없음을 공표하겠다고 하지요.

3. Helen이 죽음을 맞이하는 부분에서 펑펑 울었네요.
아무리 오래전부터 아파왔다고는 하지만 죽음이란 건 누구에게나 감당하기 어려운 두려움일텐데
신앙심이 깊어도 이렇게 담담하게 받아들일 수 있을까요?
담담하다 못해 평온하기까지 한 Helen의 태도와 말이 어린 나이에 나올 만한 말로 믿겨지지 않지만,
이상하게 저 또만 마음이 평온해지게 하는 부분이었어요.

4. 7년전쯤 Jane 아버지의 형제로 보이는 신사가 찾아와 Jane을 만나길 원했던 일이 있었다고 전하지요.
Mr Eyre는 하루, 이틀 후 먼 외국으로 떠나는 배를 런던에서 타야한다며 아쉬워했다고 알려줍니다.

5. Adele은 오래전 파리의 좋은 집에서 살면서 엄마한테 춤과 노래를 배웠다고 하네요.
여러 신사, 숙녀가 엄마를 보러오면 Adele은 그 앞에서 춤도 추고 노래도 불렀는데 그걸 참 좋아했었다고 하면서요.
엄마가 성모 마리아에게 간 이후에는 다른 사람에게 맡겨졌다가
Mr Rochester와 함께 영국으로 건너오게 되었다고 하지요.

6. Grace Pool이라고 하는 하녀의 목소리라고 하면서,
Grace Pool이 나타나자 조용히 하라고 주의를 줍니다.

1. Jane remembered the perfidious hints given by Mrs Reed, about her disposition, the promise pledged by Mr Brocklehurst to apprise Miss Temple and the teachers of her vicious nature.

Let Jane stand half an hour longer on that stool, and let no one speak to her during the remainder of the day.

2. There are only eighty people who have heard Jane called so, and the world contains hundreds of millions. And Mr Brocklehurst is not a god: nor is he even a great and admired man. And teachers and pupils may look coldly on you for a day or two, but friendly feelings are concealed in their hearts; if you persevere in doing well, these feelings will ere long appear so much the more evidently for their temporary suppression.

Miss Temple shall write to Mr Lloyed, if his reply agrees with Jane's statement, she shall be publicly cleared from every imputation.

3. 고생으로부터 탈피할 수 있다니... 안타깝고 짠하고...

4. For one day, nearly seven years ago, a Mr Eyre came to Gateshead and wanted to see Jane. Missis said Jane was at school fifty miles off: he seemed so much disappointed, for he could not stay; he was going on a voyage to a foreign country, and the ship was to sail from London in a day or two. He looked quite a gentleman, and Bessie believes he was her father's brother.

5. Jane's mamma used to teach her to dance and sing, and to say verses. A great many gentlemen and ladies came to see mamma, and she used to dance before them, or to sit on their knees and sing to them.    

6. Some of the servants, very likely, perhaps Grace Poole. She sews in one of these rooms. Sometimes Leah is with her; they are frequently noisy together.
