#17 Tonight on the Titanic
On a stormy night, J+A went to the tree house. They found a dog and it was under a spell. Annie named him Teddy. J+A got a new mission to free Teddy from the spell. They must find four special things for Teddy.
The tree house landed between two smokestacks on a ship, the Titanic. They were on April 14, 1912. The English ocean liner was making her first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to New York. Carrying 2,200 passengers, the ship was four city blocks long. Most people believed the ship was unsinkable. As soon as Jack, Annie and Teddy landed on the ship, they heard a grinding sound. The ship hit the big iceberg at 11:40 p.m. The boat started to sink. Unfortunately most people didn¡¯t know the boat was sinking. The captain and the operator tried to send SOS for help. But all the other ships who received the message were too far away to help. Even the ship the near the Titanic turned off its radio for the night.
J+A yelled people to put on life belts. But the people didn¡¯t care about the little kids¡¯ saying. Jack, Annie and Teddy went to the third-class deck and found a little boy and his sister, William and Lucy. J+A told them the Titanic had hit an iceberg and the ship was sinking showing the water entering at the end of the hall. They hurried to the top deck.
Unfortunately the ship had only 20 lifeboats which could save only half of the passengers. The ship needed twice as many lifeboats. With all the confusion on board, a number of the lifeboats were not even full when they left the ship. Many third-class passengers did not have a chance to get into any of the lifeboats because they were on the lower decks and didn¡¯t know where to go while the cold arctic water was just entering into the boat.
When Lucy and William got into the life boat, Lucy gave Annie a silver watch. It was her father¡¯s watch. Lucy carried it on the voyage for good luck. She said she had feeling that Jack and Annie were good luck that night. Then a man picked Annie up into the lifeboat. It was helpless situation. But at that time a lady shouted to get on the boat, so the lifeboat got back to the deck and Annie jumped into the deck and met Jack.
The boat was getting tilted more. The captain only could say that it¡¯s everyman for himself. The Titanic sank deeper into the sea. Jack and Annie fell forward and they grabbed the railing and held on for their lives. Suddenly the light went out. The world was pitch-dark. Teddy¡¯s barking led Jack and Annie into the tree house. They rushed and shouted, ¡°I wish we could go home.¡± pointing at the Pennsylvania book. Jack heard a loud cra...ck at that moment. It was 2:20 a.m.
When Jack and Annie came back to Frog Creek, they wondered how Teddy got out of Jack¡¯s knapsack and led them to the tree house on the Titanic. They thought Teddy had a touch of magic. Jack and Annie got a gift from a ship lost at sea. It was the watch from Lucy. Time stopped at 2:20 a.m. on that watch.
