[내용설명] 날씨라면 맑고, 흐리고, 비오는 것 같은 하늘의 상태로 나타낼 수도 있고, 덥고, 추운 기온의 차이도 포함이 되지요. 아님 습하고, 건조한 것? 그리고 바람이 불고 안불고 등도 포함이 되겠지요. 이러한 날씨의 변화를 살펴보면 일년을 주기로 반복되는 걸 발견할 수 있을 거에요. 이 첫발견의 Weather 는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울 순으로 내용이 정리되어 있더군요. 그리고 각 계절에 볼 수 있는 날씨를 이야기하는 순서로 진행이 됩니다. 그런데 이 책의 내용과 우리나라의 날씨를 비교해보면 약간의 차이가 있더군요. 영국의 날씨라고 하기에도 좀 다르구요. 아마도 프랑스의 날씨를 가지고 설명한 건 아닌가 싶은데 아무튼 우리나라 날씨의 특징도 이야기하면 좋겠다 싶었어요. [활용예문] ""M" for Mommy and "C" for Child. M: (Looking at the cover) Look at this snowman. When it snows heavy, we can make a snowman. When do you see the snow? (책표지를 보며) 이 눈사람 좀 봐봐. 눈이 많이 오는 날엔 눈사람을 만들 수 있어. 근데 눈은 언제 볼 수 있지? C: In the winter./ 겨울이지요. M: In the winter, is it cold or warm? / 겨울은 추워 아님 따뜻해? C: It's cold./ 추워요. M: Can you see the snow only in the winter? / 그럼 눈은 겨울에만 볼 수 있을까? C: No, sometimes, I can see the snow in the spring. / 가끔 이지만 봄에도 눈을 볼 수 있어요. M:Then, why does it snow? 그럼 왜 눈이 내리는 걸까? C: Well, I think it depens on the temperature. 글쎄요. 제 생각엔 기온하고 관계가 있을 거 같아요. M : Look at these pictures on this cover. There are the cloud, raindrops, rainbow, grey clouds, lightning and the sun. 이 책 표지의 그림들을 봐봐. 구름과 빗방울, 무지개, 검은 구름, 번개 그리고 태양그림이 있어. M: When it rain, we can see the clouds, raindrops and lightening. 비오는 날엔 우린 구름과 빗방울들 그리고 번개도 볼 수 있어. M: What a weather depends on the air conditions and the season. Let's look inside. 날씨라는 것은 공기의 상태나 계절 따라 다르단다. 이제 책을 보자. M: What a beautiful rainbow. I wish I could see the rainbow all day long. But it disappears at once. Anyway when do you see the rainbow? 정말 예쁜 무지개지? 이런 무지개를 하루종일 볼 수 있으면 좋겠는데 그건 바로 사라진단 말이야. 좌우지간 언제 무지개를 볼 수 있지? C: After the shower, the sun comes out. 비온 뒤 햇빛이 비칠 때요. M: Right, but we can see the rainbow on the sunny day. 맞아 하지만 맑은 날에 무지개를 볼 수도 있단다.. C: Where? / 어디서요? M: At the around of fountains or waterfalls, it can be seen. / 분수대나 폭포수 같은 곳에서 말이지. M: Even though we can make the rainbow. 심지어 우리가 무지개를 만들 수도 있는걸? [영국판의 원문과 해석] In the spring, the air is gentle and warm. Suddenly, there's a shower! 봄에는 공기가 부드럽고 따뜻해요. 갑자기 소나기가 오는 군요. It is over almost as soon as it has started. 소나기는 비가 내리자 마자 바로 그친답니다. After the shower, the sun comes out. Sometimes there is a rainbow. Can you see its seven colours? 소나기 뒤에 햇빛이 나오지요. 가끔은 무지개가 뜨기도 해요. 무지개의 일곱색깔이 보이나요? Rainbows never last long. 무지개는 오래 있지 않지요. In the summer, the sun shines brightly. When it is very hot, black clouds bring a thunderstorm. 여름엔 태양이 밝게 비치지요. 아주 더운 날에는 검은 구름이 천둥을 동반하기도 해요. The thunderstorm is over. The sun comes out again. 폭풍우가 잠잠해졌어요. 이제 태양이 다시 나오지요. At the seaside, the wind blows the clouds away. 해변가에선 바람이 구름을 흩어지게 하지요. Sometimes the wind blows too hard! 때때로 바람이 너무 세게 불기도 해요. After the summer comes autumn. The sky is grey and overcast. 여름이 지나면 가을이 와요. 하늘은 구름이 끼고, 흐려져서 어두워져요. It often rains, leaving puddles. 그리고 비가 자주오고, 물웅덩이를 남기지요. Sometimes mists and fog come creeping in. 가끔 안개가 끼기도 한답니다. But they are usually gone by luchtime. 하지만 점심시간이 될 때면 사라져요. In winter, the air grows very cold. The rain turns into snow. 겨울이 되면 공기가 차가워져요. 그리고 비는 눈으로 바뀌지요. After a heavy snowfall the countryside is covered in a soft white carpet. Snow is slippery to slide on! 눈이 많이 내린 다음, 온 세상은 하얀 눈이 양탄자처럼 깔려있지요. 눈 위는 미끄럼을 탈 정도로 미끄러워요. The bright white snow is made of millions of tiny snowflakes. Each snowflake is a crystal of ice, and every one of them is a different shape. 눈 부시게 흰 눈은 수억개의 아주 작은 눈송이가 모여서 만들어진 것이에요. 각각의 눈송이는 얼음 결정이고, 모두들 다른 모양을 하고 있어요. Up in the hills and mouthains, snow-ploughs work hard. 언덕 위나 산에선 제설기가 열심히 눈을 치워요. The snow-ploughs have to clear the roads and motorways. 제설기는 길과 고속도로의 눈을 깨끗히 치워야 하지요. Ponds and lakes start to freeze pver. 연못과 호수는 얼기 시작해요. Frost dusts the countryside with ice. It is bitterly cold... 서리가 온 마을을 뒤덮여서 몹시 춥지요. But inside it is warm and cosy! 그러나 집안은 따뜻하고 편안하지요.
