【마흔에 쓰는 일기】오타와, 정말 좋아요... > 최지연의 캐나다 소식~

아니, 오타와 살면서 오타와 좋다는 말이 그렇게 쉽게 나와요?

예~ㅎㅎ

사실 살면 살수록 좋은 곳이라는 참말로 좋다는 생각이 깊게 듭니다. 물론 눈이 팍팍 쌓일때는 머 이딴데가 다 있노. 라며 화를 내기도 하지만. 언제 눈이 오긴 왔냐는듯 하얀 눈은 모조리 사라지고 햇볕 쨍쨍한 봄입니다. 아니, 더 정확하게는 여름입니다. 모두들 훌러덩 벗고 아무 거리나 마구 걷습니다. 햇살이 쏟아져 내리는 만큼 사람들도 거리로 쏟아져 나오고 있습니다. 텃밭에는 작년에 따 먹던 나물들이 올라옵니다. 얌전하게 봄 햇살을 받아 수줍게 올라와야는데 여름 햇살을 받은 나물이 무더기로 올라옵니다. 반갑고도 이건 또 웬일이냐고 가슴은 벌렁거리며 묻습니다.

어쨋든 오타와의 겨울이 길어 싫으네... 도망 가고 싶으네... 심심하네... 그러했던 굵은 목소리는 쏘옥 들어갔습니다. 봄 없이 여름으로 가는 이 짧은 시간들을 놓칠까봐 다들 부선스럽습니다. 저도 그런 사람 중에 하나로, 오늘 낮엔 보고픈 공연이 있어 예매하러 갔다가 반가운 그림을 만났습니다. 그림으로 오타와를 만나 보세요. 오타와 좋쿤요...라고 말씀 하실꺼에요~^*^

Margaret's painting is inspired by nature, particularly the power and richness of the North American landscape. She works primarily in the Ottawa, Ontario area, focusing on the banks of the Ottawa River and the forests of the Gatineau Hills, trying to capture both its timeless grandeur and the ever-changing moods of its snow-banks, trees, and sunsets.

She paints in oil, 'alla prima,' blending pigments together directly on the canvas using a palette knife. This technique allows textures to evolve naturally and permits a loose, spontaneous style.

The goal of her painting is to evoke the mood of a natural setting and to capture the feeling of being overwhelmed by the natural, almost magical beauty of a landscape.
She is captivated by the creative process of painting and compelled by the spirituality that overtakes when contemplating a landscape.

She wants her art to be positive, free, beautiful, and romantic--something you cannot live without.
