오늘은 단수 명사를 복수형으로 만드는 방법에 대해 알아보도록 합지요.
- 음... 하다 보니 어느덧 Writing이 아니라 문법이 되어가는 듯 하지만, 이것 역시 쓰기의 일환이니 짚고 넘어가도록 하겠습니다.

먼저, 단수형이란 무엇인가, 복수형이란 무엇인가를 알아보도록 하겠습니다.

Singular Noun Definition: When a noun means one only, it is said to be singular.
Examples: boy, girl, book, church, box

Plural Noun Definition: When a noun means more than one, it is said to be plural.
Examples: boys, girls, books, churches

	1. 일단 일반적인 복수형을 만드는 방법을 알아봅시다. The plural of nouns is usually formed by adding " ~ s" to a singular noun. 일반적으로 단어의 끝에 "s"를 붙임으로써 복수형을 만듭니다. Add an S This is the most common way to make a plural. ex) cat = cats
	2. "es"를 붙여 복수형으로 만드는 단어에 대해 알아봅시다. 1. Words ending in Y If there is a consonant before the y, change the y to i before adding "es". ex) lady - ladies If there is a vowel before the y, just add "s". ex)boy - boys 2. Words ending in sh, x, ch, or s For words ending in x, sh, ch, or s add "es". ex) branch - branches 3. Words ending in f or fe For most of these words, change the f or fe to v before adding "es" ex) leaf - leaves
s, x, sh, ch로 끝나는 단어 뒤에 "es"를 붙여 복수형을 만듭니다. 또 fly와 같이 y로 끝나는 단어이지만 바로 앞의 글자가 자음인 경우에는 "y"를 "i"로 바꾸고 "es"를 붙여 복수형을 만들고, toy와 같이 "모음 + y"인 경우 "s"만 붙입니다. 하지만 "f"나 "fe"로 끝나는 단어의 경우 이를 "v"로 바꾸어 "ves"로 복수형을 만듭니다. If you add - s to such nouns as fox, bush, and bench, you will find that you cannot pronounce them without making an additional syllable. This is why such nouns form the plural by adding - es. Watch out for the words that don't fit this rule,(chief - chiefs) To help work out the exceptions to the rule listen for the change in the sound when you say the word.
	3. 하지만 꼭 이러한 법칙대로 복수형을 만들지는 않지요. 불규칙 복수형을 알아볼까요? Irregular Plurals Irregular plurals are plural word forms that don't follow any of the rules! (man → men / woman → women / child → children / foot → feet / tooth → teeth / mouse → mice / deer → deer / sheep → sheep / ox → oxen / fish → fish or fishes - 물고기 종류의 경우) 위에서 소개한 그 어떤 법칙을 따르지 않는 불규칙 변화형의 복수명사는 그냥 여러번 말해서 익혀 버리는 수 밖에 없을 듯 합니다. ^^; fish의 경우 여러마리 있는 경우에는 fish라고 하지면 여러 종을 의미할 때는 fishes라고 쓰기도 합니다.
	4. Plural Review 지금까지 단수명사를 복수형으로 만드는 법칙에 대해 알아보았습니다. 그럼 정리하여 볼까요? Rule #1 The plural of nouns is usually formed by adding - s to a singular noun. Rule #2 Nouns ending in s, z, x, sh, and ch form the plural by adding - es. Rule #3 Nouns ending in - y preceded by a consonant is formed into a plural by changing - y to - ies. Rule #4 Nouns ending in y preceded by a vowel form their plurals by adding - s. Rule #5 Some nouns ending in f or fe are made plural by changing f or fe to - ves.

참! 한 가지가 더 있었군요...
Most nouns ending in o preceded by a consonant is formed into a plural by adding es.
ex) tomato → tomatoes

아에 단수형이 없이 항상 복수만 쓰는 명사 scissors, trousers....

Some of these nouns may be used in the plural when different kinds are meant as sugars, coffees, cottons
- gold, siver, wheat, corn, sugar, cotton이 그러한 명사입니다.
