[Usborne Classics] Greetings!
Hello, we are high school students from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Illinois is a state in the middle of The United States of America. The biggest city in Illinois is Chicago, but other than that, Illinois is mostly a farming state. In our city, there is a big college: the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We are four high schoolers getting ready to go to college and we are all from various places in the world. Let us briefly introduce ourselves!

Hey guys, I’m Kevin Kim. I am very excited to be working with you all! I was born in Korea in 1999 but I came to the United States of America when I was only four years old. I have lived here ever since, and I consider myself an American now. I am in 11th grade and I go to Centennial High School. I understand what it is like trying to learn a new language; I had to learn English at a very young age and my parents made me keep on practicing Korean at the same time. Keeping up with two languages was very hard and confusing. Throughout my time as a high schooler, I have also learned Chinese and French. I know how hard it can be learning a new language, and I want to help your experiences be smoother. I really hope that we can all help you learn the beautiful language of English and strengthen your skills.

Hi, my name is Aaditya Mehta. I was born in India and came to Canada at the young age of 5 years. I lived there for 7 years and though at the beginning I could speak no English, at the end of those 7years I was fluent. I then came to Champaign and have been living here for 4years. I am now in 11th grade at Centennial High School and am 16 years old. In addition to English, I speak Hindi and am currently learning French. Also, I am very excited to be working with you all!

Hi, my name is Dong-Ha Son. I was born in South Korea, but came to the U.S when I was 3 years old. I am very limited in speaking Korean, but my Korean comprehension is good. I am a senior at the University of Illinois Laboratory High School. I am very happy that I am able to give back to the Korean Community in ways such as this, and I hope that I can help you improve your English reading and comprehension.

Hi, my name is Isaac Henry. I was born and raised in America and have lived in Central Illinois for most of my life. I am an 11th grader at Centennial High School. I really love Korean culture, especially Kpop, and I hope to help Korean students learn and master English so that one day they can come to the United States or any other English speaking country and be comfortable communicating. 저희는 일리노이주 어바나 샴페인에 사는 고등학생들입니다. 일리노이는 미국 중부의 한 주입니다. 최대 도시는 시카고인데 그외 지역은 대체로 농경지대입니다. 우리 동네에는 어바나 샴페인 일리노이 주립대라는 큰 대학이 있습니다. 우리는 진학을 앞 둔 고교생들이고 출신 지역은 세계 각지로 다양합니다. 저희들을 간단히 소개하겠습니다.

얘들아 안녕! 나는 케빈 김이야. 너희들과 함께 하게 돼 정말 신이 났어. 난 1999년 한국에서 태어났는데 겨우 4살 때 미국에 왔어. 그 뒤로 계속 여기 살았는데 이제는 미국인이라고 생각이 돼. 지금 11학년이고 센테니얼 고등학교에 다녀. 나 자신이 언어를 새로 배우는게 어떤 건지 잘 알아. 나도 아주 어려서 영어를 배워야 했는데, 그러면서도 부모님께서 한국어를 계속 유지하게 시키셨단다. 두 언어를 유지한다는 게 참 어렵고 혼란스러웠어. 고등학생인 지금 나는 중국어와 불어도 배우고 있어. 새로 언어를 배우는 게 얼마나 어려운지 알기 때문에 너희들의 언어 학습 경험이 순조롭기를 바래. 나는 너희 들이이 멋진 언어를 잘 배워서 좋은 기술이 될 수 있게 우리 팀이 도울 수 있기를 진정 바라고 있어.

안녕, 난 아디탸 메타란다. 난 인도에서 태어나 5살에 캐나다로 갔어. 거기서 7년 살았는데 처음에는 영어를 전혀 못했는데 7년 후 영어가 유창해졌지. 그리고 나서 여기 샴페인시로 이사와서 4년 째 살고 있어. 지금은 센테니얼 고등학교 11학년이고 16살이란다. 영어에말고도 나는 힌디어를 할 수 있고 지금은 불어를 배워. 너희들과 함께 공부하게 되어 아주 기대에 차있어!!!

안녕 난 손동하야. 한국에서 태어나 3살에 미국에 왔어. 난 한국말 하는 건 아주 서투른데 듣고 이해는 잘 할 수 있어. 난 일리노이 래보래터리 고교 졸업반이야. 한국 사회에 이런 식으로 되돌려 줄 수 있어 참 기뻐 (주: 뭔가 단어가 빠진 듯 합니다… 한국을 떠났지만 이런 식으로 연결된 게 기쁘다는 뜻이겠지요.) 내가 너희들이 영어 읽기와 독해를 향상시키는데 도움이 됐으면 해.

안녕, 저는 아이잭 헨리입니다. 저는 미국에서 태어나 성장했는데 평생 일리노이 중부에서 살았어요. 센테니얼 고교 11학년입니다. 저는 정말 한국 문화, 특히 K pop을 좋아합니다. 저는 한국 학생들이 영어를 배우고 능숙하게 되도록 돕고 싶습니다. 그래서 어느 날 미국 등 영어권 국가에 갔을 때 의사소통이 편안하게 되도록 말이죠. 소녀시대 최고!!
